Operation Restore Hope Australia News
November 2000

Dr Hodgkinson reports:
I have just returned from Metro Manila where I viewed the Paranaque General Hospital with other Operation Restore Hope Australia team members. Thanks to the wonderful support of Via Hoffman from Sydney, and her two brothers Joe and Danba, we will be expanding our Cebu mission to include children living in this poor Manila suburb. Watch out for more details of the upcoming mission in our next newsletter, and as always, thank you to all our supporters.

Doctors Revive Dead Baby Girl
May 2000

Australians perform "miracle"in Lapu-Lapu Hospital
(Quoted from various Philippine newspapers):

"Twenty-two year old Rosalie Legarde's worst fears came true when the baby she was trying to deliver died. But Divine Providence was on Rosalie's side as a group of Australian doctors on the Operation Restore Hope Australia mission were at the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital.

"Chief Nurse Grace Estremos said the birth team tried to revive the 7.7 pound baby girl but failed, so they sought the help of the Australian doctors. After being resuscitated by the doctors for 30 minutes, the baby girl miraculously breathed.

"Anaesthesiologist Dr Brian Horan and Dr Marty Shaw helped revive the child's life with the help of their modern equipment, aided by nurses Sue Slater and Zita Blackledge.

"The Australian medical team have been in Lapu-Lapu City for about two weeks conducting operations on kids with hare lips and cleft palates. This is part of their Operation Restore Hope Australia medical mission and their sixth in Cebu province."

Doctor Marty Shaw holds the revived baby, Angelica, shortly after he had helped other members of the Operation Restore Hope Australia team resuscitate her.
