Rotary Continues Support for Operation Restore Hope Australia
November 1998

Rotary once again has shown its ongoing support for Operation Restore Hope Australia. Our special thanks to the membership of both the Rose Bay and St. Ives branches, who have generously made donations for the past two years. Dr. Hodgkinson also spoke recently to the Kings Cross branch who showed great interest in the mission. In fact, Dr. Wyben Briones, a neurosurgeon and a Director of Operation Restore Hope Australia, is the President of the Rotary Club of Metro Cebu. Thank you Rotary for helping us to restore hope to those in need.

What makes Operation Restore Hope Australia, Dr. Hodgkinson's surgical mission to the Philippines, so special is the children themselves. These children of Cebu, who suffer from birth defects and deformities, not only show great courage in facing the adversity in their everyday lives but are also some of the bravest little patients the surgical team has ever seen. The prospect of having both function and normal looks returned to them gives the children enough spirit and hope to get through the operation and healing process. In its most recent rnission, Operation Restore Hope Australia operated on 44 patients: 34 cleft lips, 7 cleft palates and 3 burn contractures.
