International surgical charity for underprivileged children
Operation Restore Hope (ORHA) is an Australian charity for cleft lip and palate serving less fortunate children in the Philippines. The charity also provides surgery for other craniofacial birth defects and deformities.
The charity, founded in 1993 by Sydney Plastic Surgeon, Dr Darryl Hodgkinson has carried out nearly 4,000 operations to date. Operation Restore Hope also provides countless other medical services, including dental and orthodontic services among others to its little patients. Multiple surgical missions, with highly qualified medical volunteers specialising in cleft lip surgery (both from overseas as well as the Philippines) are carried out each year. These missions provide much needed surgery and healthcare services in a practical, economically efficient and hands on manner. whilst always placing quality of care first and foremost.
Operation Restore Hope also partners with The Mijares Gurango Craniofacial Foundation, led by plastic and craniofacial surgeon Dr Taps Gurango in Manila. This collaboration allows ORHA to treat more difficult cases on an ongoing basis that are not suited to a mission environment. These cases include wide clefts, both of the lip and palate, as well as highly complex craniofacial cases. These craniofacial cases include defects such as facial clefts and nasofrontal meningoceles. ORHA is also very proud of the orthodontia work carried out in this program including nasoalveolar moulding (NAM) for wide cleft lips and obturators for wide cleft palates.
What makes Operation Restore Hope Australia unique is that all our surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses as well as administrators in Australia are volunteers; even our accountants work pro bono for the charity. This means that we make every cent of your donations count to help these children in need. Furthermore, Operation Restore Hope is not a fly in and fly out surgical charity. ORHA missions return to the same communities every year where we not only provide surgery, medical equipment and supplies but partner with local medical professionals and NGOs to ensure that our patients are followed up with comprehensive post-operative care.
